A statue by artist Uno John Palo Kangas of the overenthusiastic converter for the Catholic Church stands(stood… taken down in the purge of 2020) in front of City Hall, the former Ventura County Courthouse built in 1912-13. This State of California Historical Landmark building, listed on the National Register for Historic Places, is noted for its gleaming terra cotta exterior, copper sheathed dome and elegant Italian marble foyer.
